History
St. Louis is a city older than the United States itself. A city that has seen industry and people come and go over the years and witnessed it's own designated boundaries burst at the seam. A city of pioneers and dock workers, of entrepreneurs and brick layers that quite literally outgrew itself at one point. St. Louis shined so brightly in the later 19th century and drew so many citizens in that it became the 4th largest city in the world. It was taken as a given that our population would swell to a million residents and city boosters and politicians presented it as the obvious location for the nations capital.
What happened in the more than a century since then is a layered history that is being explored and questioned more than ever, by residents old and new and across the entire region.
Pride
Fourth City Photography is centered around the idea of working with people in the community who still see that grand vision for St. Louis and the region. Around tapping into the city's hard-working and creative culture to bring people together and show the community in it's best light. Fundamentally, we think St. Louis is a place worth being proud of. That it's people should be proud of where they live. And that by lifting up the people and communities that share that vision, together, we can tap into that same spirit that guided St. Louis to it's 4th city status.
Engagement
We think that community starts with knowing your neighbor. That connections, no matter how small, are what produce thriving communities. Whether that means neighbors from across city and county lines, north or south of the Delmar divide, or on the same block, the smallest interactions are what lead to genuine relationships. Our aim in every project we take on is to foster that community spirit in the St. Louis region. To bring people together around the places, businesses, and ideas that bring us all towards that goal of a brighter and better region. To continue on as a great American City.
